Hi Sarah, bedwetting can be very challenging and at times quite embarrassing especially if it continues into your teenage years. The most important thing to remember however is this is in no way your fault – just as you might be a better runner, dancer or swimmer than your friends, they just were lucky enough to have a bladder that is better at storing urine overnight. We are all different which makes the world a much more interesting place to live in! Given your age I would certainly recommend that you and your parents meet with a pediatrician or other medical professional that specializes in treating nighttime incontinence. There are some very successfully treatments available that can help you to become dry at night. Alarms are generally the most effective, you can keep the costs down by hiring an alarm rather than purchasing one but it is essential that you speak with a doctor first to see which type is best suited to you. In the meantime it is important that your bedwetting doesn’t interfere with your social life. There are some interesting stories and great ideas on the website about how teenagers have attended camps and sleepovers. Good luck!

Dr Cathrine
