Even though it is our children who wet the bed, it’s often the parents who need the most support (and often don’t receive any!). Coping with bedwetting can be overwhelming for many parents and justifiably so – you need to cope with the additional demands of wet sheets, the related financial costs, the fear that your child will be found out and socially ostracized and probably the most frustrating of all, being unaware of when this will all come to an end. The reasuring news is that it will. Just as you, your husband and eldest son stopped wetting the bed so will your daughters. Our current concern however is how best to support them and you through this challenging process. Unfortunately I do not have any direct contact with Westmead Hospital – fingers crossed that you have heard back from them by the time you receive this reply! If not, you could try contacting the National Continence Helpline (1800 33 00 66) and speak with one of their continence advisors regarding renting a bedwetting alarm. They will also be able to provide you with additional information about the Continence Aids Payment Scheme and your eligibility. Best of luck!
Regards,
Dr Cathrine
