I can stop wetting and pooing in my pants both day and night.

Ive had a lot of trouble in the past with my wetting and pooing at times and I cant stop and I really want to stop because it is embarrising. I wear depends maximum protection with the sticky tags on the side that you do up almost 24/7 and Im sick of it. I dont want people to find out that I wear nappies like a baby because they will tease me and make fun of me. Because I have trouble putting them on my aunty Julie sometimes helps me put them on and take them off. Can you PLEASE give me some advise on how I can stop wetting and pooing in my nappy and give me some advice on what to do at school, at parties and while dancing or going to the gym I went to my local doctor with my aunty Julie and he told her to keep me in the nappies. What shall I do Please help me.

Hi Amanda, daytime wetting can be very embarrassing so it is important to try and treat this as soon as possible. One of the main causes of daytime incontinence is an overactive bladder. Not drinking enough fluid or drinking drinks high in caffeine such as chocolate or coca-cola can worsen overactive bladders and lead to increased accidents. Constipation also plays a role when is comes to daytime wetting so it is important to rule this out first. Less common causes of daytime wetting include emotional stress or urinary tract infections (particularly if you have been previously dry). Given the frequency of your wetting I would recommend that you ask to be referred to a pediatrician, ideally someone who specializes in childhood continence issues. In the meantime there are a few simple things you can try. Firstly, make sure you are drinking enough as there is a tendency for people to limit fluids in an attempt to reduce the number of times they need to empty their bladder. If your incontinence is a result of chronic constipation, this can only make the wetting worse. Avoid caffeinated drinks and increase the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet to avoid constipation. Go to the toilet regularly (aim for 5-7 times a day), and try not to hold on for too long once you develop the urge to go. DryNites are certainly fine to be worn both day and night and would be a great way to help you to manage your daytime incontinence. It is important that you change these regularly to avoid developing any sort of noticeable odour as well as reducing the chance of leakage. You can disguise your DryNites by wearing tight sport shorts or bike pants over the top. This is in no way your fault, just as asthma suffers experience difficulty with breathing due to their lungs not working effectively, you experience difficulty managing urinary control as your bladder isn’t working as efficiently as it should.
