My 11 year old daughter has just started having a few dry nights in a row. Should I encourage her not to use dry nights to keep her going or do I still use them until she is completely dry?
One of the signs that your daughter is moving toward achieving nighttime continence is a reduction in the number of nights she wakes up wet. The fact that she is beginning to wake-up dry is an encouraging sign. The decision of whether or not to continue using DryNites is really up to you and your daughter. While some professionals argue that the use of absorbent pants slows down the process there is very little evidence to support this. You need to think about what the implications are if she doesn’t wear them. Does waking-up wet and cold bother her (or you)? Can you cope with the additional laundry when she does wet the bed? Your answers to these questions should govern your decision. Remember that the process of becoming dry can be fast for some children and slower for others. Stay positive – praise all successes and ignore accidents!
