Hi Mihi – while DryNites can certainly be used to help manage both enuresis and encopresis (which refers to fetal incontinence), this should only be viewed as a form of management not treatment. Fecal incontinence in children or adolescents is typically a sign that you are suffering from constipation. If left untreated, constipation can result in leaking of fecal matter that can very smelly and dark in colour. Constipation can occur if your diet is particularly low in fibre, you do not drink sufficient liquids, are very inactive or have developed a habit of holding onto your stools. It is very important that you follow this up with your GP.

Dr Cathrine
