Bedwetting can be incredibly distressing for the whole family. If you have not done so already the first step is to make an appointment with your GP or get a referral to an Incontinence Advisor to discuss treatment options. The best and most successful approach at the moment is the conditioning alarm. It is important that you do not try to tackle this on your own as the more support and guidance you receive the more likely he will achieve nighttime dryness. There are a few other things he can do in the meantime like making sure he is drinking enough water throughout the day, it is best to avoid energy drinks or other soft drinks as these typically contain caffeine. Your doctor may also talk to you about medications that he can take which will allow him to attend sleepovers without the worry of waking up wet – it is always advisable to give these a trial run first as they are not always successful.
