It sounds like your daughter is suffering from encopresis, a condition where children leak fecal matter, into their underwear or DryNites. The leakage in most instances is involuntary. A common cause of encopresis is constipation, so the first thing you need to do is make an appointment for you daughter to see her GP. If she is constipated the doctor may need to perform an enema in order to remove the impacted stool. Your doctor will also discuss with you ways to help prevent further complications associated with chronic constipation including increasing the amount of fluid your daughter drinks, and introducing a diet high in fibre. He or she may also suggest a behaviour management program, which is designed to promote healthy bowel habits. This involves things like encouraging her to sit on the toilet after each meal, you can make this a more pleasant experience by giving her a book to read, and offering her a reward when she is successful.
