Our 4 1/2 year old daughter has had three weeks straight of no wet beds at night, then suddenly this week she has had one or two accidents each night! I have been watching things like no drinks after 4pm etc. The only thing that is different is that she has a bit of a cold at present. Would this contribute to the problem?
A decrease in the frequency of bedwetting is often a good indication that this is a phase that is coming to an end. It is important to keep in mind that even after children have attained nighttime continence occasional accidents are still likely to happen. Bedwetting may occur at times when your child’s sleep pattern is altered for various reasons, such as after a day filled with activities and excitement or when they are sick. It is best to just ignore this in the short-term as it is likely to stop once she is sleeping better. I wouldn’t recommend restricting fluids as this may result in dehydration or constipation. You may want to put her back into DryNites for a while so that she isn’t waking-up cold and wet.
