Hi – it is not unusual for children your daughter’s age to continue to wet the bed at night, although any form of daytime incontinence after the age of 5 years should certainly be checked by a GP. There is huge variability in the age at which children achieve nighttime continence; some children are dry within a few months of toilet training while other’s can take years with about 15% of children still wetting the bed when they start school. It is important that your daughter understands that this is not her fault – we find the way parents manage children’s bedwetting is most important in ensuring children outgrow this stage without any long-term impact on their self-esteem or wellbeing.
