My daugter is 4 years old and she never been dry at night. She was day time toilet trained at 3.But she still has few accidents during the day since she was day time toilet trained. She wears Huggies junior size nappy to bed eveynight for bed wetting.I have tried to get her wears drynites
to bed at night, but she prefers wear nappies. So should I put her in nappy or drynites for bed time? and Should I put her in nappy for accidents in day time?
It is quite common for children to experience the occasional accident during the day for a couple of years after being toilet trained. Young children are easily distracted and can find it difficult to tear them self away from a game which is why they often leave it too late to get to the toilet in time. If the frequency of her daytime accidents increases or her urine develops a strong odour you should have her seen by your GP in case there is an underlying medical condition. Talk with her about how she feels when she needs to go to the toilet – helping her to identify those early cues so that she doesn’t leave it until the last minute to go. Reintroducing nappies during the day will not help her to achieve daytime continence instead you may like to consider introducing a reward system whereby she receives a sticker at the end of each day when she hasn’t experienced any ‘accidents’. I would certainly work towards using DryNites at night, as she will soon outgrow the nappies. It is important that she doesn’t feel pressured to wear these as this may impact on her self-esteem. You can explain to her that DryNites are designed for older girls like her and that she can pull them on and off herself just like undies!
