My daughter was toilet trained day and night by the time she was 3. 18 months later she got the chicken pox and started wetting the bed every night, she is now 10 and still wets every night. Is this normal after being dry for so long?
Sometimes children begin to wet the bed again after experiencing a period of dryness – these children are experiencing what we refer to as secondary enuresis. In these cases it is important that you see your GP to check for any possible medical reason or psychological explanation for the wetting – you should also use this opportunity to discuss treatment options. You should talk with your daughter and make sure that nothing is bothering her. In these cases often the bedwetting stops when whatever is causing the child to wet goes away (in the case of emotional distress) or is successfully treated.
