My daughter is 10 and is still wetting the bed almost every night. Can you offer any ideas or should we be taking her to the doctor?
Unfortunately when it comes to bedwetting many parents and children suffer in silence, too embarrassed to discuss their situation with anyone while hoping that one day it will all come to an end. I think you have been very patient and it has come to time where you need to seek professional help. I typically tell parents that if their child is still wetting the bed on a regular basis by the time they have reached 6-years of age then it is time to speak with their GP. Your GP will first conduct some tests to make sure there is no physical basis to her bedwetting and should discuss treatment options with you. The decision of whether or not to pursue treatment is ultimately up to you and your daughter. I find the desire to attend sleepovers and school camps motivates most children to seek treatment although many still attend with the help of absorbent pants like DryNites. Whatever your decision it is important that you do not allow her bedwetting to put social limitations on her behaviour. Reassure her that her bedwetting is not her fault and that it will come to an end.
