Hi Sharyn, the first thing you need to do is rule out any underlying medical cause. Sometimes a return to daytime wetting may be a sign of a urinary tract infection, however if his urine smells normal and he is not complaining of pain on urination this is unlikely. It may be on the days that he wets he has fallen into a very deep sleep pattern, similar to what occurs overnight, making him less prone to respond to a full bladder. It is important that he fully empties his bladder just before his day sleep as well as avoiding any foods or drinks that are known to stimulate urine production. These include such things as caffeinated drinks and chocolate. Continue to encourage healthy bladder habits by ensuring he drinks water regularly throughout the day. If his daytime wetting increases in frequency I would recommend you consult with your GP. All the best!
Regards,
Dr Cathrine
