he seems a little dissappointed when he wakes wet. His 7 year old brother has made a dryness chart for him with a reward for 5 nights dry. He has not been able to do more than one dry night and has even lied to his brother and myself saying that he woke up dry. I find the wet pullup in the bin. I just dont want him to become very upset about it. What is the best thing to do for him at this point to minimize his situation?
There is little evidence to suggest that wearing absorbent pants either extends or shortens the bedwetting process. The main purpose of DryNites is to help children and parents manage bedwetting and help minimize the negative impact this can have on sleeping patterns as well related workload. The decision of whether or not to wear these should ultimately be up to you and your son. If you feel that by wearing them he feels less confident and self-assured then perhaps you should consider alternate ways to help minimize the impact of bedwetting. Unfortunately incentives or reward charts are unlikely to help your son to become dry at night and may in fact make him feel worse about the situation. Unlike daytime bladder control, your son has very little control over his bladder while asleep, so while rewards can be very motivating during the day, they do little to control his behaviour at night. Rewards can certainly be used to encourage positive behaviours such as going to the toilet just before bedtime, disposing of his DryNites in the morning or drinking good amounts of water regularly throughout the day.
