Hi, my 4 year old son hasn't started to wet the bed at night he just hasn't toilet trained for the night time as yet. I have been using pull ups at night as he has grown out of the range of Huggies nappies but the pull ups simply arnt doing the job either

Hi Nikki, the time between achieving being toilet trained during the day and achieving nighttime continence is quite variable. Some children do this fairly quickly while others take a little longer. Children who continue to wet do so as their bladder has just not yet matured to a point where it is able to store the amount of urine their body produces overnight. Once it does children usually stop wetting the bed. Until then I would recommend using DryNites rather than Pull-Ups. Pull-Ups are designed for daytime use and for toilet training therefore they are less absorbent and more prone to leak at night. DryNites have a much higher absorbency and are better suited for older children. If he continues to wet through these then it might be wise just to follow-up with your GP so you can rule out any possible underlying physical cause.

Dr Cathrine
