My son is 4 and 2 months old. He has never ever been dry yet. He sleeps in Nappy Pants each night and they are always soaked in the morning. His father wet the bed until around 7-8 and his Poppy wet the bed until around 8-10yrs old also. Should I be doing nothing (like I am) or should I be starting to work on
a plan of action?
the decision of whether or not to seek professional help is really up to you, your husband and your son – keeping in mind that your son’s bedwetting is quite normal for a child aged 4. In fact some professionals have argued that bedwetting among boys should not be viewed as a problem until they have reached seven. It is quite common for bedwetting to run in families with the research supporting a strong genetic link – the fact that both his father and his grandfather experienced bedwetting increases the likelihood that your son will continue to do so. One of the best indicators of when your son will stop wetting the bed is to look at the age his father and grandfather achieved nighttime continence – which means that he may wet for a few more years. The most important thing is how you manage his bedwetting and how it affects you and your son. If you adopt a positive attitude and are happy to wait until he outgrows it on his own – then the chances are that your son will adopt a similar attitude and feel much better about it.
