7yr old son wets at night and getting worse

I have a 7yr old son who is wet at night. He is occasionally dry, and when he was younger would go a week dry at a time. I'm not sure what to do. Currently we are using dry nights and have intermittently tried him without, which hasn't been successful. We've also tried taking him to the toilet at night which has resulted in him being dry in the morning sometimes. Is this the right thing to do?I have heard of bell call but wasn't sure whether to use it. Could you please give me some suggestions. I'm getting worried about potential sleepovers and camps!!!

bedwetting can be a source of great embarrassment and if allowed to can significantly interfere with your son’s social life. It is not unusual for parents (or children) to rule out sleepovers due to fears of being discovered. DryNites come in very handy at these times as they will allow him the freedom to attend without the fear of being discovered. There is a great story on the DryNites website about how a young girl prepared for a school-camp and how she hid her bedwetting from her friends by hiding her DryNites pants in her sleeping bag with packets of lollies to disguise the rustling, another parent I know put her son in nylon track pants to disguise the sound! Waking or lifting, while sometimes resulting in fewer wet beds, does not teach children to become dry on their own – but if you do decide to continue with this it is good to vary the times when you do it. I think the bell call you refer to is actually the pad and bell alarm which is a conditioning alarm treatment commonly used to treat bedwetting – the pad goes under your son’s bed sheet and the alarm placed on the bedside table, when the sensor senses wetness the alarm goes off and hopefully wakes your child. It requires whole family commitment as during the initial stages parents typically need to wake their child and get them up to go to the toilet. Before trying any form of treatment it is important that you speak with your GP.
