7 year old boy wets the bed every night

My 7 year old boy wets the bed every night even sometimes when he wears a pull-up. How?

Dr Cathrine Answered:

Children wet the bed for a number of reasons, some do so because they produce double the amount of urine overnight, others do so as they are unable to wake to the signal that their bladder is full and needs to be emptied, others just have a smaller bladder capacity. Constipation may also be a contributing factor as this can lead to pressure building up in the area around the bladder reducing the amount of urine the bladder can hold. Whatever the cause a key concern for parents is how we manage their bedwetting while it is occurring. Firstly, try putting him in DryNites Pyjama Pants instead of Pull-Ups as these are designed to hold larger amounts of urine and look more like a pant than a nappy, appealing to older children. I would also recommend that you schedule an appointment with your GP to make sure there are no underlying medical reasons for his bedwetting, you can also discuss different treatment options while you are there.
