I have a 2 year old boy who pees that much in his sleep that it soaks through his nappy and into his clothes, making him wake up wet at 4.00am every day. We use huggies walker ( he is 14 kilos ) Shall I go up a bigger nappy size, try nappy pants or your product ?
Hi Melanie, firstly, my apologies for the delay in responding to your question. The first thing to check is that his nappy is fitting correctly as improper fit can contribute to leakage. From personal experience I found Huggies to be the most absorbent on the market and while I did experience the occasional leakage this was usually a good indicator that my son was ready to progress to the next size. I also found that I needed to upgrade before he reached the upper weight limit listed on the pack. You could certainly try him in DryNites overnight by requesting a free sample off the website, they are very absorbent although the smaller size is suitable for children weighing 17kg or more so you may find them to be too big for him. Children’s overnight urine output can be quite variable – parents of children who seem to pass a lot of urine overnight sometimes find it easier to change their child’s nappy just before they retire for the evening. You could also try plastic outer pants to stop the urine leaking through and waking him. You can try and reduce his urine output by limiting the amount of dairy- or citrus-based drinks he has in the evenings as these are known to stimulate the kidneys. If you were at all concerned about the amount of urine he is producing I would certainly recommend you consult with your GP.
Regards,
Dr Cathrine
