Firstly, I would recommend you make an appointment with your doctor just to rule out any physical cause to his bedwetting and to discuss treatment options – most of these are suitable for children from age 6 onwards (you can read about these on the DryNites website). There are a few simple things you can try in the meantime which will help you better manage his bedwetting. Firstly do not restrict fluids as this can make the bedwetting worse – instead make sure that he is drinking plenty of water and unsweetened fruit juices throughout the day – this will help increase his bladder capacity as well as avoid constipation. Make sure he doesn’t have fizzy drinks or chocolate in the afternoon or evening as the caffeine will increase the amount of urine produced overnight placing added strain on his bladder. Although it may not seem like it now – most boys his age do outgrow bedwetting on their own, it will eventually stop!
