Hi H.L. – It is not unusual for young children to experience periods where they start to wet the bed again as they move toward achieving nighttime continence. This can occur even when there seems to be no obvious explanation for the change in behaviour – occasionally the return to wetting may be due to overtiredness or as a result of illness. Bedwetting is certainly one of the symptoms of worms along with poor appetite, grinding of the teeth, stomach aches, difficulty sleeping and irritability. If your son attends day care or preschool then he certainly is at a higher risk of getting worms. From personal experience, I find that the bedwetting stops following completion of treatment – it is essential that you treat the whole family at the same time to prevent further infestation. Good luck!

Dr Cathrine
