the last time was at approximately the time my partner got up to get ready for work, i had just put the kettle on and he woke screaming and began to cry because he had wet his pants, i took him to the toilet which is easily accessible for him and he finished of his wee and i changed his clothes and he eventually went back to sleep he has never been a bed wetter just on occasion a little dribble but the last 2 times were bad
Hi Rebecca – While stress can certainly be a contributing factor in secondary bedwetting it would be worthwhile having your son checked by his GP just to make sure there is no underlying medical cause for his return to wetting. While his screaming may have been in response to the shock of finding himself wet, it could also be a pain response on urination, which can occur if he has a urinary tract infection. My youngest son, who is also four, became dry at night from around 2 ½ years however just recently he has experienced a few wet beds and it seemed to coincide with a case of tapeworm (children who attend day care/preschool are more susceptible to contracting this). I also find that children tend to sleep more soundly in winter and are therefore more prone to not waking in response to a full bladder. Hopefully this will settle soon and he will return to dry nights.
Regards,
Dr Cathrine
