Boys bedwetting (4-10 y) · Asked by Jacqueline 11 months ago

Dr Cathrine Answered:

Hi Jacqueline, it is not particularly unusual for boys your son’s age to be still wetting the bed at night on a regular basis. However, given that he was dry for an extended period of time it would be a good idea to have him checked by your GP just to rule out any possible underlying medical cause. With respect to the nighttime waking, it is generally recommended that we do not do this as (1) it does not teach your son to learn to wake on his own in response to a full bladder and (2) it generally results in a very disrupted night sleep for both you and him. When children become over-tired this makes it even harder for them to respond to the signals sent from their bladder to their brain saying it’s full and needs emptying. All the best!

Regards,
Dr Cathrine
